In loving memory of Eileidh Patterson, 14/03/12 to 01/07/17
Eileidh was a bright, sociable, independent and stubborn girl, who loved Minnie Mouse, Frozen and Sofia the First. She sadly passed away at the age of five.
Eileidh’s family shared the incredibly sad news: “With a very heavy heart, I’m heartbroken to tell you all that Eileidh gained her Angel wings at 11.45am on Saturday 1st July. She took her last breath surrounded by her family & cuddled up with blankie. She won the hearts of everyone who met her & will be sorely missed.”
In May 2012 2-year-old Eileidh started to experience difficulty with breathing. Mum, Gail, also noticed her tummy was bloated. Their GP prescribed medication for trapped wind but Eileidh became very quiet and withdrawn and didn’t get any better.
She was referred to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where after many tests, Gail was told a tumour had been found in Eileidh’s abdomen. Scans showed it was stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma and more tumours were found.
She endured chemotherapy, surgery, high dose chemotherapy with stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and immunotherapy fighting bravely for over 3 years, relapsing twice but always smiling.
Sadly new, more aggressive tumours started growing rapidly and 2 days later on the first day of July, Eiledih gained her angel wings. She will be forever five.
Her family have started a charity to support other families with children living with a life-threatening illness and through bereavement.
Solving Kids’ Cancer supported Eileidh’s family to raise funds to access a clinical trial in the United States. Her page on our website will be kept open and any funds raised will help other children and families battling this devastating disease.
