Always remembering
Eileidh
Eileidh was bright, sociable, independent and stubborn. She loved Minnie Mouse, Frozen and Sofia the First. Eileidh passed away when she was five years old.
Eileidh’s story
Eileidh’s happiness and fun character brought sunshine and laughter to all who met her.
In May 2014, when she was 2 years old, she started to have trouble breathing. Mum, Gail, also noticed her tummy was bloated. Their GP prescribed medication for trapped wind but Eileidh became quiet and withdrawn and didn’t get any better.
She was referred to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where after many tests, Gail was told a tumour had been found in Eileidh’s abdomen. Scans showed it was stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma and more tumours were found.
Eileidh endured chemotherapy, surgery, high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and immunotherapy, fighting bravely for over three years. She also relapsed twice but kept smiling. New and aggressive tumours then surfaced which grew rapidly.
Eileidh passed away on 1st July 2017 surrounded by her family.
Since Eileidh’s passing, in her honour, her family set up a charity to support other families with children living with a life-threatening illness and through bereavement.
