Bereavement support

Our bereavement support varies according to need but can include emotional, practical and financial support during palliative care and/or following the loss of a child.

Our Family Support team includes team members who are bereaved parents who truly understand.  We can help by:

  • Offering a listening ear at a time of need in a safe and confidential forum
  • Connecting families with others sharing similar experiences
  • Referring families to specialist and dedicated organisations
  • Providing a bereavement grant through the Big Love Fund

Bereavement is individual and can be at different points. For some this can begin at the time of receiving a poor prognosis, for others this can be when receiving palliative care whilst for other parents, bereavement will be after their child has sadly died. We are here for you at any point, as are the other charities included below where you may also find details of signposting to other resources and organisations helpful to you.

Pilot Coaching Programme

How a parent reacts to bereavement is individual and everyone grieves differently. We are developing a pilot Programme to support bereaved parents in collaboration with Life After Cancer. Made possible through a National Lottery award from The National Lottery Community Fund, our Family Support team are being trained to deliver a Coaching Programme, which will enhance our overall support service.

We are currently in the design phase and are involving input from our bereaved parent community. We look forward to providing more details on this soon.

Big Love Fund

Families in need of financial support with funeral and associated costs can apply for a grant of up to £500.

The Big Love Fund helps families across the UK. Inspired by a young man named Luke Wiltshire, the fund continues his legacy and fulfils his wish of improving the lives of those affected by neuroblastoma.

Named funds

Solving Kids’ Cancer UK Named Funds are a unique way to raise funds in the name of your child and help make a difference for all children and families affected by neuroblastoma both now and in the future.

Inspired by our pioneer named funds, the Oscar Knox Fund, the Alfie's Wishes Fund and Smiles for Stanley Fund, all named funds will help us to do more for children with neuroblastoma and their families – facilitating pioneering research, supporting more families, developing wider resources and sharing the latest information across the neuroblastoma community.

If you are interested in setting up a Named Fund in memory of your child, our Family Support and Fundraising teams are on hand to help. Please contact our dedicated team namedfunds@solvingkidscancer.org.uk to find out more.
